2009 USPA Arena Polo National Championships

California Polo Club Selected as Host of
2009 United States Polo Association Arena Polo National Championship

The sport of polo will return to Hollywood when Los Angeles hosts the 2009 United States Polo Association (USPA) US Arena Polo Championship this coming weekend.  The California Polo Club, located minutes from Hollywood, was recently selected to receive the event, the highest rated national arena tournament of its kind.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting for the second time the 2009 USPA US Arena Polo Championship,” said Rodney Fragodt, co-founder of the California Polo Club.  “This tournament is truly one of the most prestigious not only in the nation, but in the world.  It’s exciting to be welcoming polo of this caliber back to our city.”

Top polo professionals from across the world will contend for a win at the 2009 USPA US Arena Polo Championship. The Championship game will be played on Saturday, November 7 at 3PM with pre-games starting at 1PM.  Attendance of all matches is free and open to the public. V.I.P. dinner during the Championship match is $25 per person and by reservation only. Please call Leo Consenza at 888-533-2333 for information and reservations.

Polo, the oldest team sport in the world, originated in Persia as early as the 6th century B.C., and the modern game was introduced to the western world in the 1800s by British cavalry stationed in India.  The sport achieved popularity in Los Angeles and was played extensively during Hollywood’s golden era, with over 30 clubs in the area during the 1930s. The rising cost of real estate has caused most polo operations to move outside of the urban areas.

This is a one-of-a-kind and close-up opportunity to watch extraordinary athletes and horses battle it out for a polo championship – stadium seating over a sunken earth arena – when the horses come charging by, you’ll hear the thunder and feel the same adrenaline that coursed through the veins of our ancestors, years ago when watching Gladiators battling each other in the glory days of ancient Rome!

“By hosting the 2009 USPA US Arena Polo Championship, we hope to spread awareness of polo,” Fragodt said.  “The game hasn’t been played at such an elite level in Los Angeles for some time, but the sport still exists here at the California Polo Club.  With matches played 4 days per week – It is absolutely an option for locals.”

DEFINITELY BE THERE Saturday, November 7th for all the action and fun of the USPA US Arena Polo Championship!!  The weather promises to be perfect, the dress is completely jeans, boots and sweaters-casual, there will be food and drink and you’ll find out that polo is truly a great way to spend a day in Los Angeles.
