Trailing 5-1 after the first two chukkers, Isla Carroll bounced back to score a well-coordinated 9-7 win over Endeavor Capital in the opening round of play in the 2009 USPA Kay Colee Memorial Cup. 


 


Played on the Number 1 field of the International Polo Club in Wellington, Endeavor Capital got balanced scoring in the first three chukkers with Stevie Orthwein and Luis Escobar scoring a pair of goals apiece and Marc Ganzi and Larry Austin chipping in single goals.


 


Isla Carroll was held to a single goal from Kris Kampsen in the first two chukkers before putting four goals on the scoreboard in the third period.


 


Juan Bollini scored twice in the third chukker while Kampsen converted a penalty goal and John Goodman added a goal from the field to trail Endeavor Capital 6-5.


 


A revived Isla Carroll team took the field in the fourth and fifth chukkers as they played shutout defense while adding four goals to their total.


 


Endeavor struggled to get back in the game, and managed a single goal by Escobar in the final chukker, but it was Isla Carroll with the win and a spot in Sunday’s tournament finals.


 


Juan Bollini led all scoring with four goals.  Teammate Kris Kampsen scored three times with Melissa Ganzi and John Goodman adding single goals in the win.


 


Stevie Orthwein, Luis Escobar and Marc Ganzi each scored two goals for Endeavor Capital, with Larry Austin scoring once.


 


BARBAROSSA LEATHER 9, BOCA DEVELOPERS 7


 


In an earlier match that was played at the tournament host’s, Grand Champions polo field, Barbarossa Leather relied on five goals from Joey Casey to score a 9-7win over a resilient Boca Developers to earn a berth in Sunday’s tournament finals.


 


Leading 6-4 at halftime, Barbarossa Leather matched Boca Developers goal for goal through the final three chukkers to secure the win.


 


Trevor Allen set the pace for Boca Developers with four goals.  Brian Street scored twice and Diego Cossio added a goal in the loss.


 


Casey led all scorers with five goals on the day.  Leo Mandelbaum added two goals with Greg Keough and Charlie Muldoon accounting for single goals for Barbarossa Leather.


 


Tournament play will continue on Sunday, October 25 with Endeavor Capital meeting Boca Developers in the consolation round while Isla Carroll will face Barbarossa Leather in the championship match.
