2010 Queens Cup Draw

The Harcourt Developments Queen’s Cup

Guards Polo Club is delighted to announce that 14 teams have signed up for The Harcourt Developments Queen’s Cup Tournament. Last year’s high-goal competition produced some great sport and a thrilling final, with Apes Hill winning the tournament for the first time, and providing one of the most exciting games to be seen on The Queen’s Ground for many years.

Unfortunately Apes Hill will not be returning this year to defend their title, but Luke Tomlinson will be in action with Talandracas, while Charlie Hanbury will be playing for El Remanso. In addition there are plenty of other household names and the team sheet includes five 10-goalers: Adolfo Cambiaso in a Dubai shirt, Gonzalito and Facundo Pieres for La Bamba de Areco, Sebastian Merlos with Les Lions ll and Juan Martin Nero hoping for a repeat of his 2007 victory with Loro Piana.

The draw for this competition, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, was held on Tuesday 11th May and the first games will be played on Tuesday 18th May. The quarter finals will be held on the weekend of 5th-6th June with the semi-finals taking place at Guards Polo Club on Wednesday 9th June. The winning teams on that day will receive either The Westbury Mayfair Trophy or The Hubert Perrodo Trophy. These teams will then head through to the prestigious final, historically played in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen, on Sunday, 13th June.

As part of The Queen’s Cup 50th anniversary celebrations, Guards Polo Club’s official timing partner, DeWitt has designed two special commemorative watches. The DeWitt “Queen’s Cup 1960-2010” gentleman’s watch is inspired from the new Twenty-8-Eight Tourbillon model. This watch will be produced in a limited edition of 50 pieces. The No 1 model will be auctioned on the 10th June during The Queen’s Cup Anniversary Dinner. The proceeds of this sale will be donated to the Sands Charity, which supports those affected by the death of a baby and helps promote research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives. The DeWitt “Queen’s Cup 1960-2010” lady’s watch is inspired from the new Dame de Pressy model which is decorated with more than 460 brilliant-cut and “snow-set” diamonds. This watch will also be produced in a limited edition of 50 pieces and the No 1 model will be presented to HM The Queen after the final of this year’s Queen’s Cup.

The Queen’s Cup Tournament is once again sponsored this year by Harcourt Developments. The award-winning property development, management and investment company has a broad portfolio of international projects, which include the impressive Park West in Dublin, Ireland’s largest business park; the five-star Wyndham Grand Hotel in Chelsea, London, the waterside regeneration project at the Esplanade Quarter in Jersey, and the Carlisle Bay Hotel, Antigua.
