2015 HPA British Junior Polo Championships – The Hipwood & Buckmaster Finals
By Victoria Elsbury-Legg
It’s not just the teenage and twentysomething polo stars competing in major adult tournaments who have been shining on the pitches in recent weeks. Alongside the adult tournaments, the 2015 HPA British Junior Polo Championships have been taking place across many grounds around the country (including Black Bears, Trewsbury Farm, Cirencester, Beaufort, Kirtlington, The Royal Berkshire and Billingbear) all games were coordinated by Jilly Emerson.
With so many fantastic opportunities for under 21 players to be part of adult tournaments, this year the British Junior Polo Championships were divided into two sections – Buckmaster Matches (for teams of -2 to 1 goals and for players under 18 on 1st January 2015, recommended minimum age is 14, four chukkas), and The Hipwood Matches (for teams of -8 to -5 goals and for players under 15 on 1st January 2015, no players of 0 goals or above, recommended minimum age is 11, three chukka matches, including the finals) – eight teams were entered into each section.
The results of the semi-final matches played last Friday were:
Northwood 12 v 2 Dalmahoy
Beaufort 4 v 3 ½ Kirtlingon
Taunton Vale 9 v 2 ½ Beaufort Highlander
Longdole 6 v 3 ½ Foxcote
Players will now go on to compete in The Hipwood Finals this Thursday 6th August at Cowdray Park Polo Club, with a barbeque for players and their parents after the match.
