2015 NYTS Season Kicks Off on March 1

2015 NYTS Season Kicks Off on March 1

In 2013, the United States Polo Association created a national tournament series to provide more opportunities for junior players to compete outdoors with and against their peers at a local and national level. In an effort to grow and sustain the sport of polo in the United States, NYTS is a training module that prepares youth for formal tournament competition, challenges players to get to know their team, and identify their opponent’s strengths and weaknesses.

The 2015 National Youth Tournament Series (NYTS) is set to kick off on March 1 and will run until August 3. We encourage all of our active and affiliate outdoor member clubs to host a NYTS Qualifier in conjunction with unrated junior polo chukkers, and  other qualifying USPA events.

To host a NYTS Qualifier, please fill out and submit a Circuit Application a minimum of 7 days prior to the event.

Player Requirements:

Your club affiliation as of January, 1 2013 determines your home zone. Players born after 1/1/996 will be eligible to compete in 2015 NYTS and are eligible for $50 USPA Student Membership and you may request a handicap for no additional fee.

Players are no longer required to compete in their home zone in order to qualify for the National Championships.  Your All-Star award, from any qualifier, will automatically add your name to the list of eligible players to represent your home zone in the National Championships.

For additional information regarding the NYTS program, please contact  Amanda Snow.

Who can play in the NYTS?

Players born after 1/1/1996 who have an active membership with the USPA and have a minumum handicap of “B” are eligible.

Do I enter as an individual or as a team?

Individual players enter and fair teams are assigned by the host club tournament committee.

How many chukkers is it?

All NYTS games are four chukkers.  If there is a three-team tournament with only two available play dates the round robin format is recommended with scores carrying over to the next day.

What are NYTS All-Stars?

All-Stars are chosen at each qualifier based on horsemanship, sportsmanship, playing ability at their current handicap, and how they compete as a team player.  At the end of the season, the committee selects a team from the season’s All-Stars in the entire zone.  That team will represent their respective zone at the National Championship over Labor Day weekend.

Who provides the horses?

Players are required to mount themselves in NYTS qualifiers and at the Championships.  Players may play their own horses or they may arrange to rent or borrow suitable horses.  At Championships, the NYTS Committee provides a list of horse providers for players to contact directly.
