Play began at 5pm on Friday in Sotogrande with Medium Goal teams looking to secure their spot in Monday’s semis. First through were Equus who beat Silex by five goals (11-8). Whilst on RIO I Wild Orchid and Scapa-John Smith drew level with a score of 11 all at the final bell, taking them into extra time, during which Michael Redding finally scored the winning goal for Scapa-John Smith with a score of 12-11. On other grounds Seven Sevens went two goals ahead to win 10-8 over El Rosario and it was lucky 13 for Lebeau-Courally against Mahra-Esparanza’s 12 goals.
In the 18:30 matches it was Birger Strom’s Sainte Mesme, Yago Espinosa de los Monteros’s Los Dragones and Roger Carlsson’s FCT who rode of the pitch the winning teams with final scores: Sainte Mesme 10 v 11 Woodchester, Leones 10 v 12 Los Dragones and FCT 12 v 10 Sapphire-Dr. A.
At the end of play on Friday, Seven Sevens, FCT and Equus were through to the Medium Goal Semi Finals, with Lebeau-Courally, Mahra-Esperanza, Silex and Woodchester scheduled to play on Saturday at 11am in a penalty shoot-out on Puente de Hierro Field I to decide who would fill the final place.
After penalties took place Craig Mckinney’s Woodchester (Thady Duff, Juan Ruiz Guinazu and Pelayo Berazadi) made it through to Monday’s Semi Finals where they will play Equus at 17:00 and at 18:30 Seven Sevens meet FCT. Whilst into the first Subsidiary Semi are Mahra-Esperanza against Sainte Mesme, followed in the second by Lebeau-Courally v Silex.
