The Silver Cup Casa de Campo has kicked off

DUBAI STARTS WITH THE RIGHT FOOT AT SOTOGRANDE

Dubai Polo Team defeated Brunei by 16-12 in the kick-off of the Casa de Campo Silver Cup in the 45th INDI International Polo Tournament. The team of the Emirati patron Rashid Albwardy and Adolfo Cambiaso, the best player of the world, started off with the right foot the defense of the title they won last year in the Santa María Polo Club.

Cambiaso has been undefeated throughout 23 matches in a row in Sotogrande so far, as he has maintained a 2-year winning streak: in 2014 with Valiente Polo Team and last year with Dubai. Today, in the Los Pinos field n°4, Dubai, team that is completed with the Uruguayans Alejo Taranco and Santiago Stirling, had to face a very fierce opponent but could handle and control the match during the six chukkas, even though in the 5th one, Bahar Jefri’s team had a great reaction.

It was in this chukka that 10-goalers Mac Donough and Stirling showed their true colors and decreased the margin with Dubai, to just one goal (11-12).In the last seven minutes, Cambiaso’s experience and class put a halt on Brunei’s illusions, scoring his team four goals in a row and winning the match by 16-12. The Casa de Campo Silver Cup continues tomorrow, with the match between Ayala Polo Team and Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada.

Adolfo Cambiaso:  “Honestly, I didn’t know how many games I had been undefeated, but I am glad to know it. I have been lucky to be in great teams and organizations. With Jejo (Taranco) I have been doing really well in the last years here in Spain. The Sotogrande season is one of the easiest to start, as you get here with the rhythm and practice of England. Moreover, it is quite easy to adapt to this season: the fields are much faster, the balls are wood and the referees, Argentinian. In England, the fields are heavier, the ball rolls less and the rain makes it a bit complicated, but anyways the statistics were more in my favor in the Queen’s Cup than in the Gold Cup.Sotogrande this year has improved greatly. The fields are much better than last year, I’m certain there was a lot of effort put into it. Sotogrande is one of those places in the world where you know you’ll play in great fields, so I’m not surprised about the great state they have”.
