Brunei wins again and is back on track on the race for the cup

The first week of play of the Casa de Campo Silver Cup in the High Goal category has ended, and Brunei and Lechuza Caracas won two very important matches against Ayala Polo Team and Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada, respectively, in the Los Pinos fields of Santa María Polo Club.

Brunei defeated Ayala by 13-8 meaning this is their second triumph in a row in the tournament, while Lechuza Caracas recovered from a bad debut categorically defeating Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada by 14-8.The matches were both very good with a very high level of technique and plays on which the performances of Pablo Mac Donough and David Stirling Jr. for Brunei, and Juan Martín Nero and Julián de Lusarreta for Lechuza Caracas, stood out. 

The Casa de Campo Silver Cup returns on Sunday with another double match day featuring the battles between Ayala Polo Team vs. Lechuza Caracas; and Dubai Polo Team vs. Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada.Both matches will be played at 19 hs on the Los Pinos fields 3 and 4.

On Monday, Dubai, the team from Emirati patron Rashid Albwardy and Adolfo Cambiaso, the best player in the world, defeated Lechuza Caracas by 8-5 and remains undefeated in the Casa de Campo Silver Cup played today in the day 3 at the Los Pinos fields, the principal location of the INDI International Polo Tournament. The team, that also counts with the presence of the Uruguayans Santiago Stirling and Alejo Taranco, repeated the great performance proved on their debut. The first half of the game had the team playing at its highest level, giving them a 5 goal margin, that was maintained until the 5th chukka. Despite Lechuza’s efforts in the sixth chukka specially where they tried to get back on track, the lead never shifted for Dubai, that has won twice in a row and is once again the favorite to win the title they are already defending.

On field 2, Brunei team from patron Bahar Jefri recovered from its defeat against Dubai and won comfortably the match versus Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada by 15-10. The team counts with the presence of two of the world’s best players, David Stirling Jr. and Pablo Mac Donough, and easily dominated the encounter, taking a lead of 11 goals in the fourth chukka.

Aerolineas Argentinas Silver Cup (Medium Goal) 

On Tuesday, teams Golden Goose Deluxe Brand and Brunei had outstanding performances in the day 2 of the Aerolineas Argentinas Silver Cup in the medium goal category of the 45° INDI International Polo Tournament organized by Santa María Polo Club.The matches took place on the Río fields of Santa María Polo Club, and Golden Goose defeated Royal Salute by 15-7, while Brunei did the same with Sainte Mesme by 11-7.These two very convincing triumphs are thanks to a great level of polo and effectiveness at the time of scoring that allowed both teams to start with the right feet the first matches belonging to the first cup of the season in their category. 

The following day, The Emerging/FCT faced Twenty/20. The game started with a slight difference in favor of the first team, but after the 1st chukka, Twenty/20 could get a grip on the match and scored several goals on every chukka, Even though The Emerging/FCT experienced a recovery on the 5th chukka, this was not enough, and Twenty/20 won by 14-9. At the same time, Kazak met GSA on a very even match, won by the first team by a difference of only one goal, 15-14. Later on, Santa Quitería played against Seven Sevens, that won once again, and has been the only undefeated team of the category so far. Final score was 12-9.

The Aerolineas Argentinas Silver Cup returns tomorrow on Los Pinos fields. At 17:30 hs on Field 1, Brunei Polo Team will meet Royal Salute, while at 19 hs, Golden Goose Deluxe Brand will meet Twenty/20 on Field 2. 

Isolas 1892 Bronze Cup (Low Goal) 

During Wednesday morning, the Isolas 1892 Silver Cup in the low goal category began. The cup was kicked off by the matches at 11am between Bayswater and Lechuza John Smith on Field 1; and El Campito and Jolly Rogers on Field 2.

The match between Bayswater and Lechuza John Smith was a thrilling one on which the team lead by Pelayo Berazadi, Lechuza, was able to take the lead with a 2 goal difference on the 2nd chukka, and kept it up until the end of the match, winning by 8-6. Simultaneously, the game between El Campito and Jolly Rogers was played, a very tough match which Jolly Rogers absolutely dominated, with 2 goals in every chukka. In spite of the efforts of El Campito, that in the 6th chukka speeded it up and scored three goals, the lead was clear and they were defeated by 7-6.

The second bracket of the day featured the triumphs of teams La Clarita and Sotovila. Both teams won with wide goal differences over their opponents. La Clarita could defeat Chester Race Course by 10-7, taking the lead of the game after the 2nd chukka. Sotovila dominated Valdeparras just at the 4th chukka, when they scored three goals, and later on, they had an excellent last period, with four more goals scored, to finish 10-6.
