
LES LIONS / SAINTE MESME WINS THE BIONESTA PHARMACEUTICALS HIGH HANDICAP BRONZE CUP; LEGACY POLO TEAM CELEBRATED IN THE LOW HANDICAP
SAN ROQUE, Saturday, August 2, 2025 – Les Lions / Sainte Mesme won the Bionesta Pharmaceuticals High Handicap Bronze Cup this Saturday. It was after beating Amanara by 9 to 8 in the final played on court 3 of Los Pinos. In this way, the team that lined up Robert Strom, Dillon Bacon, Hilario Ulloa and Tommy Beresford wins the first title of the highest polo category of the 54th International Polo Tournament.
The match got off to a very intense start, with both teams showing their best repertoire from the opening whistle. With great players on both sides, the first half showed some of the best plays of the match. Les Lions / Sainte Mesme were strong in the build-up of play from the back of the field; Amanara showed a lot of speed, with 3 young players who have become a reality of this sport for some time now.
But Les Lions / Sainte Mesme knew how to find the way from a team play in the extra chukker, which was defined and finished by Dillon Bacon, who after receiving a pass from Robert Strom, won the play against the rival defender and managed to get on the way to the victory, which allowed his team to climb to the top of the podium and lift the first trophy at stake of the High Handicap in the tournament. Tommy Beresford was decisive for his team’s victory, scoring 4 goals and being chosen as the best player of the final.
As a prelude to the definition of the High Handicap, Hartog Polo Team and Legacy faced each other for the title of the Low Handicap, with 7 of the 8 players who had settled just a couple of weeks ago the Manuel Prado Memorial and Colón de Carvajal. On this occasion, court 4 of Los Pinos was the stage where Legacy Polo Team celebrated the title of the category. It was a 13-8 victory, which gave Legacy its first title in the 54th International Polo Tournament.
After the finals, it was the turn of the awards ceremony, which was attended by, in addition to the protagonists, Diego Sámchez, CEO of Bionesta; Susana Cevallos, from Bionesta; María Collado, Accidental Mayor of San Roque; María Cruz Conde, from Covetsol; Antonio Alés, CEO of Ayala Polo Club; María Emilia Sánchez, from CITI RE Reinsurance; María Susana Sánchez, from Bionesta; and María Emilia, from Ammari Fragrances
