MB POLO TEAM AND BLACK BEARS, SEMI-FINALISTS OF THE SILVER CUP
SAN ROQUE, Sunday, August 10, 2025 – A splendid polo day was experienced this Sunday in Los Pinos for the Terralpa Silver Cup, with three matches that left several definitions for the final week of the competition. On the one hand, MB Polo Team and Black Bears sealed their passage to the semifinals in the High Handicap, while the semifinal draw of the Medium Handicap was also determined.
It should be remembered that the Terralpa Silver Cup is the second stop of the 54th International Polo Tournament. The competition is divided into three polo categories: High (20-22 goals), Medium (12-14 goals) and Low Handicap (6-8 goals), and the finals are scheduled to be played between Friday 15 and Saturday 16 August.
Due to the High Handicap, the qualifying stage of Zone 1 was closed, with two matches that had a practically quarterfinal tinge, since due to the parity within the aforementioned group, whoever won each respective match was assured of the pass to the semifinals. In the first round, and after a great team performance and a goal by Rufino Merlos that sentenced history, the Black Bears team became the first semifinalist in the category.
Next, court number 3 was the stage in which MB Polo Team defeated Dos Lunas, and secured not only a place in the semifinals, but also finished first in the Zone.
On Monday, Zone 2 will conclude with two matches that will be played simultaneously and that will define the complete semifinal draw of the Terralpa High Handicap Silver Cup. With several chances according to the results that are given, Zone 2 is headed by La Dolfina Herederos Marqués de Riscal, with 2 wins and no losses, followed by Amanara and Whizmo, with 1 win and 1 loss each, and then there is Les Lions / Sainte Mesme, with two losses. Even so, the latter remains with a chance of at least reaching a penalty shootout in second place. To do so, they must beat Amanara, and Whizmo must lose to La Dolfina Herederos del Marqués de Riscal.
In turn, by the Medium Handicap, Brunei Polo Team defeated Santa Quiteria Mondragón and, in this way, the semifinal draw of the category was established: on Tuesday these teams will face each other again, on the one hand, while Electric Polo and Muda IZ Polo will measure themselves for the other pass to the final.
