Universities Unite for the La Martina University Arena Polo Championships 2009
The La Martina SUPA University Arena Polo Championships will take place from 12th – 15th February where a record 89 teams representing polo players from over 28 Universities will come together for a four day long arena polo extravaganza.
Sponsored by La Martina the full programme will feature non-stop polo played by students from beginners through to the more experienced player. A cross section of Universities will be represented from as far as Ireland, Exeter, Loughborough, Newcastle and Portsmouth. NFU Mutual will be running a tournament for the Agricultural Colleges and this year a special tournament for SUPA Alumni and Graduates will take place sponsored by Lycetts. Bristol University Polo Club are hosting the Official Polo Players Party and Valentine Evening on Saturday, culminating in the grand finals on Sunday.
The La Martina University Arena Polo Championship is just one of the many initiatives hosted by SUPA, including the La Martina International Polo Festival in the Summer and an extensive winter and summer polo programme for Schools, Junior Schools and Universities throughout the year. SUPA supports an active winter programme of training and development, National Arena Championships and regional tournaments. The summer programme features National Junior Schools, Girls Schools and National Universities Tournaments. All of these tournaments feature beginners through to experienced players.
All spectators are welcome to attend with games taking place in the comfort of Hand Equestrian Centre, Clevedon, North Somerset.
About Schools and Universities Polo Association
SUPA was established to promote and develop Schools and Universities Polo. Founded in 1991, SUPA acts as a central point of reference for advice, guidance and encouragement. SUPA organises tournament, representative teams and seeks to distribute financial support as far as possible. There is now an extensive winter and summer programme of polo for Schools, Junior Schools and Universities. SUPA supports an active winter programme of training and development, National Arena Championships and regional tournaments. The Summer programme features National Junior Schools, Girls Schools and National Universities Tournaments. All of these tournaments feature beginners, novice, intermediate and Open Divisions. There are on average around 20 players in each school – with some schools having over 40 players. There are around 50 schools and 50 universities involved with SUPA and well over 2,500 young players represented and supported by SUPA.
