ANNOUNCED: ENGLAND AND SOUTH AFRICA TEAMS FOR FIRST AUDI INTERNATIONAL OF THE SEASON

ANNOUNCED: ENGLAND AND SOUTH AFRICA TEAMS FOR FIRST AUDI INTERNATIONAL OF THE SEASON

Beaufort Polo Club in Tetbury will welcome England and South Africa for the first game of the Audi International Polo Series for 2013 this Saturday 16 June. Following an incredibly successful season for England polo last year, with wins over both South Africa and South America, the UK’s forthcoming season guarentees to deliver the exciting spectacle of polo once more.

England’s Number One and Two shirts will be worn by two of the most talented, young English players, George Meyrick and Max Charlton. Meyrick has been one to watch since he was selected to play the high goal at the age of just 16, while Charlton has continued to rise, season on season, becoming one of the most effective and successful players in the current Audi England squad. Filling the Number Three position, and captaining the team, is none other than Malcolm Borwick, who over the past few years has been a regular in an England shirt, and behind him will be Tom Morley at Number Four.

On the opposition we will see a slightly younger line-up as Brad Mallett will play upfront at Number One, with Jean Du Plessis supporting him at Number Two. Seven goaler, Tom de Bruin, will be the highest handicapped player on the field and will play Number Three, while Gareth Evans has been selected to fulfil the role at Number Four.

With the teams selected, field prepared, and ponies schooled, five chukkas of what will certainly be competitive, fast-paced and intense polo will decide who will be the winner of this year’s first Audi International Polo Series.

The programme for this season’s Audi International Polo Series is set, and this year’s International calendar includes a battle between England and America for the Westchester Cup at Guards Polo Club, Windsor Great Park, on the 28 July.

While  the Audi International is the centrepiece of the ‘Gloucestershire Festival of Polo‘ at Beaufort Polo Club, Tetbury, this weekend the 15 and 16 June, the crowd will also be treated to a match between Young England and England Ladies, as well as host of stalls and various activities.
