Aspen Valley, Grand Champions Polo Clubs Well-Represented At Southeastern Intra-Circuit Tournament

Aspen Valley and Grand Champions Polo Clubs will be well-represented this week in a polo tournament at the Gulf Coast’s premier Point Clear Polo Club in Silverhill, Ala.

Melissa Ganzi, Juan Bollini and Juan Olivera will compete in the Southeastern Intra-Circuit 8-12 Goal Tournament that begins Thursday and continues through Oct. 18th.

The tournament is being held in conjunction with the Oct. 14-17 USPA Board of Governors and annual meeting at the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa.

According to tournament director Jimmy Newman, it is the first time Point Clear has hosted the tournament.

“It’s a fun tournament,” Newman said. “The players in the tournament are also involved in the meetings.”

Ganzi and former 8-goaler Juan Bollini will compete on Team 6 along with Tom Gose and Carlucho Arellano. Olivera will compete for Team 5 along with Jake Flournoy, Eddy Martinez and Herndon Radclif.

The rosters for the 11-day tournament are:

Team One (11): Paige Boone, 1, Frankie Bilbao, 5, Steve Orthwein, 1, Steve Orthwein Jr., 4

Team Two (10): Chip Campbell, 2, Gonzalo Teves, 4, Craig Duke, A, Brad Blake, 4

Team Three (10): Roni Duke, A, Jason Crowder, 6, Bayard Erb, 2, Alfredo Guerremo, 2

Team Four (12): Joe Fitzsimmons, 1, Martin Ravina, 5, Joe Meyer, 1, Alan Martinez, 5

Team Five (10): Jake Flournoy, 2, Eddy Martinez, 4, Juan Olivera, 2, Herndon Radclif, 2

Team Six (11): Tom Gose, 1, Carlucho Arellano, 5, Melissa Ganzi, A, Juan Bollini, 5

Play begins on Thursday at 11 a.m. with two games.  Two games are scheduled each day through Wednesday, Oct. 14th.

Team 6 opens play on Friday against Team 3 on Clearwater Field at 11 a.m. Its second game is Sunday at 3 p.m. against Team 2 and Wednesday at 1 p.m. against Team 4. Team 5 played Team 2 in the opening game on Thursday.

The first consolation game is Saturday on Clearwater Field at 3 p.m. On Sunday the subsidiary is 11 a.m. followed by the championship final at 3 p.m. on Hill Field.

INFORMATION: There are great field side views for tournament action at the home base of pro teams Audi and FlexJet. Everyone is welcome to watch high, medium and low goal polo in a relaxed atmosphere that includes a free Argentine asado during the winter, spring and fall tournament season feature games and other special events. Admission is free except for special events.
