Audi International – last in the 2014 Series

Audi International – last in the 2014 Series

By Victoria Elsbury-Legg

The 2014 Audi International Polo Series draws to a close this weekend with Chester Racecourse Polo Club as the stunning backdrop.  Since the inaugural Audi sponsored International match at Beaufort Polo Club in 2012, there has always been plenty of adrenaline fuelled on pitch action for the crowds at the three English venues to enjoy.

When Audi took over sponsorship of the second match in its International series at Guards Polo Club from title sponsor of many years – Cartier, the brand with the four rings (known for innovation and brand values of sportiness, progressiveness and sophistication) astutely made their four-wheeled, leather upholstered off-pitch horsepower synonymous with the magnificent four-legged version on the pitch.  Members of the Audi England team are now a well-recognised sight at all the top English grounds unloading stick bags from the boots of metallic gunmetal grey Audi estates, then jumping effortless between their leather saddled mounts on the pitch.

This Saturday 6th September will be no exception at Chester Racecourse Polo Club where Audi England – Jack Richardson (5), Max Charlton (6), George Meyrick (6) and Tom Morley (6) will take on The Rest of The World – Richard Le Poer (5), Manuel Fernandez Llorente (6), Matias Torres Zavaleta (7) and Guy Gibrat (4) – playing to win the Chester Diamond Jubilee Trophy.

This season, the Audi England team (with James Harper, George Meyrick, Max Charlton and Jack Richardson as the line-up) have already achieved a 10–8½ win in the opening Audi International at Beaufort Polo Club in June against Goldin Hong Kong.  In July it wasn’t to be quite such a successful story at Smith’s Lawn, when the Argentine captains of the winning teams in the 2014 Cartier Queen’s Cup (Facundo Pieres – Zacara) and Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup (Adolfo Cambiaso – Dubai) teamed up and headed for the same goal, against Audi England.

So for all those recently returned from the exciting Sotogrande action, Chester Racecourse Polo Club is the place to be on Saturday.  With late summer weather forecast, it looks set to be a perfect day for ponies, play and pitch-side champagne in the sun.
