Britain’s Ambassador to Mexico launches the inaugural British Polo Day in Mexico

 

 

The British Ambassador, HE Judith Macgregor got proceedings under way at the first ever ladies match at British Polo Day in Mexico’s Balvanera Polo & Country Club.  The British Ambassador had the honor of starting the match in the traditional way by throwing the ball in at the beginning of the game on Saturday 24th November.  The day’s festivities that saw first class polo that was a first time for The British Polo Day series in Central America as well as a fashion show. 

 

The event, just outside the town of Querétaro coincided with The National Show jumping Championships and Guests enjoyed the show jumping before heading to the Taittinger Reception next to the polo ground.

 

It was an afternoon of outstanding polo the first match between Jaguar Land Rover Eton and Intercontinental Park Lane Young Mexico proved to be a high tempo opener. Young Mexico proved too strong with the young JJ de Alba excelling. Tea and Tequilla provided refreshments and this meeting of cultures prepared all the guests for the highly anticipated Ladies match.

 

The British Ladies team took on the joint strength of Angelissima The Rest of the World. Roxtons British Ladies team was captained by 4-goaler Nina Clarkin, the leading women’s player in the world, and included The Marchioness of Milford Heavn.  A tightly contested encounter ended honors even at 2-2. Clare Milford Haven said “ This is my second trip to Mexico playing polo but first time in a female team. We were all friends and I thought the game was a lot of fun, fast moving and open with the result ending in a suitably diplomatic draw. This isn’t just about the game but also about the trip. I’ve been luckily enough to play polo in 16 different countries, many on polo tours but this passed week has been a truly unforgettable experience. The past week has been the beginning of what promises to be a long lasting Anglo-Mexican relationship.” 

 

Mexico was the launch pad for the British Polo Day’s first ladies match. British Polo Day was honored to have HE Judith Macgregor, The British Ambassador award the trophy to Roxtons British Ladies and Angelissima The Rest of the World.

 

HE Judith Macgregor said, “The inaugural British Polo Day Mexico was a well executed representation of British Luxury Heritage”.

 

The day finished with an after party at La Laborcilla with Hackett London the British Polo Day fashion house providing a showcase of their new winter collection.  Chepo de Alba the owner of the Balvanera Polo and Country Club said, “In my opinion the brand British Polo Day reconfirms how polo as an organization is an incredible promotional tour for international relations at the highest social and business level. As a result for of British Polo Day and the National Show Jumping Championships we have managed to put Quetero and Balvanera on the social and business map.
