Cartier Queen’s Cup – Day 4

Just one game today, played at Guards Polo Club, but the winner went home with some silverware as it was played for the Royal Windsor Horse Show Cup

League Four

Talandracas  11 – 9  HB Polo

Edouard Carmignac’s Talandracas may have started their 2013 Cartier Queen’s Cup campaign with a victory, but they only narrowly defeated the Pailloncys’ HB Polo (rec 1 goal) 11-9. It did not start well for Talandracas, the winners of the Queen’s Cup in 2011, as they failed to score at all in the first chukka. HB Polo, making their debut in this tournament, also failed to capitalize on Talandracas’s poor start,  producing only one goal in the first chukka, so giving them a narrow 2-goal advantage going into the second. This continued to be the form for the first half of the game. When the tables were turned and HB Polo failed to score in the third, Talandracas only managed to score two goals, so giving them to the narrowest of leads, 4-3, going into half-time.

HB were the first to increase the pressure in the fourth scoring four goals to only two in reply from Talandracas, allowing the newest team in the high-goal to take the lead once again. Of course this surge only inspired Talandracas, who were back on top at the end of the fifth, leading 9-8. Two further goals from Carmignac’s boys in the final chukka, to only one in reply from HB Polo, guaranteed them a win, but they would have  wanted more air in that final score without doubt.
