Cartier Queen’s Cup kicks off at Guards Polo Club
The Cartier Queen’s Cup started today and did not disappoint. First up was Park Place, making their 22-goal debut, against former Queen’s Cup winners Talandracas at Coworth Park. Juan Britos kicked things off for Park Place and was this team’s main goal scorer, ensuring they were 8-6 up at the end of the fourth chukker. Fortunes swapped around in the fifth, with Park Place failing to score but Talandracas firing through 4 goals off the sticks of Alejandro Muzzio and Francisco Elizalde. This put Hughes Carmignac’s team into the lead for the first time with a two goal advantage. With two goals from each team in the final chukka it was a 12 – 10 victory for Talandracas on the final whistle.
Next up was a fabulous fast and flowing game on the Duke’s Ground. Michael Bickford’s La Indiana – this year featuring Facundo Pieres – were very much in the driving seat in the first half and were 7 – 3 ahead against Charlie Hanbury’s El Remanso after four chukkas. El Remanso then found their stride in the latter part of the game – with the patron himself producing two spectacular shots at goal – but could not fully rein in last year’s finalists. The final score was 8 – 7 to La Indiana.
