Cheltenham Cup 2012

Cheltenham Cup 2012

Having beaten her husband Simon’s 4 Quarters Orange team in the semi finals, Romilla Arber’s 4 Quarters Black went the whole way to take the 12 Goal trophy at Cirencester Park; a convincing 7 – 3 1/2 goal victory over Steve Rigby’s Rigby & Rigby team.

4 Quarters Black took the lead quickly with a goal from Max Charlton within the first minute. Two penalties and another great goal from Chartlon – a wild shot from the centre line which rolled all the way – left a substantial 5 – 1 1/2 goal gap in the score line by half time.

Rigby & Rigby scored twice more but never looked too much of a threat to the 4 Quarters Black side who had proved continuously strong throughout the tournament. Richard Le Poer picked up the ball at the boards on the half way line and punched it down the field and on target to give 4 Quarters their seventh and final goal of the game. Rigby and Rigby claimed back one more goal at the end of the fourth to make the 7 – 3 1/2 final score.

Max Charlton earned the Most Valuable Player award and Richard Le Poer’s mare Cheeky Monkey took the Retraining of Racehorses honours.

Christian Badenhop and Ed Courage’s Brothers/Indubitable combination were the Ivy Lodge Cup winners, in a much closer final. They beat Dorsia 4 1/2 goals to 4 to take the trophy.
