International polo returns to Chestertons Polo in the Park as England take on South Africa

International polo is set to return to Chestertons Polo in the Park 2016 on Friday 3 June, with Team England to face Team South Africa in what is sure to be one of the must-see polo clashes of the year.

The International match is back by popular demand following the success of the 2015 show-down which saw world-class International polo played at the prestigious Hurlingham Park for the first time since 1939. The fierce sporting rivalry between England and South Africa is set to draw in even more crowds from across London for an action-packed opening day of the tournament.

A nation that prides itself on its international sporting pedigree, the South African Polo Team will be out to cause an upset at the home of English Polo, Hurlingham Park. Fiercely competitive and with hugely talented polo players, South Africa will pose an almighty challenge to Team England. 2016’s international match will not be one for the faint-hearted.

Managing Director of Sportgate International, Rory Heron said: “We’re really excited to welcome the South African players and are looking forward to seeing lots of South African expats at Chestertons Polo in the Park supporting their home team.

It’s going to be an adrenaline fuelled match between two great teams with so much polo heritage battling out for the Hurlingham Olympic trophy.”

England team player, James Beim said: “Last year’s International match had an unbelievable atmosphere. To have support from the crowds and playing at the original home of polo was a really wonderful experience.

“It’s an absolute privilege to be back again and this year we are determined to defeat Team South Africa and take the trophy home.”

The International match is set to heat up the three-day event which has firmly established itself as one of the most anticipated and sought after summer social events. The match, which has been officially sanctioned by the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), plays a significant part in polo heritage as the rules of the game were originally founded at Hurlingham Park in 1875.

The International match will be played under the City Polo format, whereby the rules have been simplified so that spectators will be able to follow the fast and furious polo without needing any prior knowledge of the game.
