Christine Vermes talks to US Coach Joel Baker

Christine Vermes of the USPA had a chance to spend some time with United States Coach Joel Baker in Santiago today and asked him some questions about the upcoming tournament.

Christine reports that the fields are in magnificent shape right now and should be ready for the action to begin tomorrow.

Christine Vermes:  What has the US team done specifically to prepare for their upcoming matches?

Joel Baker: During our month long training regimen in Wellington our team came together, worked very hard to play as a team and help their team mates be the best they can be.  The rain delay has made it difficult for most of the teams to play. Our guys have been working out in the gym and played 3 hours of tennis wednesday to continue to foster team unity as well as get some exercise.

Christine Vermes:  How do you expect the game play/flow of the game etc. to go with Argentina?

Joel Baker:  The Argentines always have strong riding and hitting abilities and it will be very important for us to anticipate the play before it develops so they can control the man in the next play. We are very fortunate that we get to see Brazil and Argentina play first so we’ll know a lot more after we see them play.

As a reminder, the first game of the tournament is Friday, 27th March, at 3pm Central Time with Brazil facing Argentina.

The USA’s first game is vs Argentina at 3pm Saturday, 28th March, at 3pm, their second is on Sunday 29th at 3pm vs Brazil.
