At the Alfredo Lalor Headquarters in Pilar, the intercollegiate tournament for the Santa Paula Cup, donated in 1951 by the famous Reynal brothers in homage to their mother, Doña Paula Llauró de Reynal, ended on Thursday 10/10; and its Subsidiary Zeus and Bronze.
In this edition of the contest, seven teams of between 1 and 14 goals of handicap participated, grouped into two zones, representing four secondary level educational institutions.
In the grand final for the Santa Paula Cup and despite having conceded a 4 1/2 goal advantage due to their greater overall handicap, New Zealand “Red” beat Newman “A” by 11 to 8 1/2 and won their third title in the tournament (and consecutively), while the “Cardinals” could not get back on the podium of the top winners. since they were left with 5 (1961, 66, 91, 92 and 2001).
On the podium is Champagnat, who won 17 titles (the last one in 2011), followed by St. Catherine’s Moorlands, who have 13 (they have not won it since 2019) and Lasalle, with 6 (they have not won the title since 1977).
Meanwhile, the Zeus Cup was in the hands of New Zealand “White”, who in the first match of the day beat Los Robles “Amarillo” by 9 to 4 1/2; while then, Los Robles “Azul” won the Bronze Cup after defeating St. Catherine’s Moorlands 9-5 1/2.
