Weekend Polo grows at Cowdray Park
Weekend Polo was introduced to Cowdray Park Polo Club in May 2017 with an all-inclusive approach and the aim of opening up one of the UK’s leading clubs and its fantastic pitches to players who may have felt that playing at Cowdray Park was beyond their reach. Following a very successful inaugural year, Weekend Polo returns to Cowdray Park Polo Club in 2018 with a new sponsor, Edburton, the West Sussex Civil Engineering contractors, and the addition of a new Weekend Polo playing membership.
The cost of a Weekend Polo playing membership is £2,340 (HPA subscription not included) and entitles players to participate in all Weekend Polo games during the season, starting on the weekend of 12/13th May and closing after the weekend of 1st/2nd September (excluding the two final weekends of the King Power Gold Cup and the weekend of the England International match at the Royal Berkshire). This membership type does not entitle the member to play in any other polo (chukkas or tournaments) at Cowdray but permits Cowdray Park Polo Club social membership benefits.
For those who do not wish to avail themselves of the Weekend Polo membership, the cost is £170 per game for non-Cowdray Park members and £100 per game for 2018 Cowdray Park Junior members. Players will be invoiced monthly for game fees. For 2018 Cowdray Park Full Playing members and those holding Under 23 & 27 memberships there is no charge to play in Weekend Polo games.
2018 Weekend Polo at Cowdray Park welcomes all players holding a current HPA and UK club playing membership. The number of players will be restricted to 16 per day to make up 4 teams (2 matches). The initiative will be operated on a first come first served basis where the first 16 players to register will be allocated a place in a team.
Teams will be put together based on handicap to create fair and balanced sides. Games will be played in whites to replicate match conditions and encourage a competitive edge. Registration to play opens at 9am on the Monday prior to the weekend of play and closes at 12pm on the Wednesday. Teams and match times will then be confirmed by 5pm on the Thursday.
