Duke of Essex Polo Trophy a roaring success

Crowds to rival those of the Gold Cup final turned up at the beautiful Gaynes Park Estate in Essex on Saturday to watch Argentina take on Great Britain for the Duke of Essex Polo Trophy. The day was in aid of three charities, most notable VISION, whose patron Katie Price was hosting this year’s event.

The ex-glamour model and accomplished dressage rider took to the field on her horse, leading on the two teams and throwing in the ball to start the match. The four chukka game was dominated by the talents of the Talamoni brothers, who between them notched up most of the goals for Great Britain. The home side eventually ran out the winners 10 – 6. Australian player Glen Gilmore kept up his famous commentary, making sure that even first-timers knew what was unfolding before them.

Spectators, including several well-known celebrities were also treated to show-jumping, a fashion show and plenty of evening entertainment. Plans to make next year’s event bigger and even better are already underway.
