EASTER ACTIVITIES AT SANTA MARÍA POLO CLUB

EASTER ACTIVITIES AT SANTA MARÍA POLO CLUB

Santa María Polo Club will be opening doors next Saturday with the traditional José Ignacio Domecq Memorial celebration, in its 36th edition. The shopping area and restaurants will also start their activity that day, as every Easter.

The opening days will be March 28, 29 and April 1, 2, 4 and 5. The José Ignacio Domecq Memorial will take place the last day and there are excellent predictions in weather forecasting for that Resurrection Sunday. While this classic Medium Goal game is hosted in Sotogrande, several Low Goal teams have their parallel competition in one of the multiple fields at Los Pinos, what increases the attendees and the excitement of the event.

The XXXV José Ignacio Domecq Memorial is held in honour of the renowned winemaker and polo player from Jerez who reached a 5 Goal handicap and played until old age. He raised 11 children, four of whom inherited his love for this sport. His grandchildren Roger and José Ignacio are the ones currently continuing the tradition.

Last year’s winners of the most important Spring Season tournaments in Medium Goal, Sapphire-Bayswater London Gin and Silex, are presented as the great rivals to beat in their category. It won’t be easy for them, however, to reissue their triumphs. They will have to face such competitive teams as Scapa-John Smith, a regular squad on Sotogrande fields that has already won past editions of both José Ignacio Domecq Memorial and Conde de Guaqui Memorial. They will also have to defeat Dragones, the team including the Portuguese 4 Goal polo player Diogo Gallego in its squad and, finally, La Isla, with Mario Gómez (4).

Sapphire-Bayswater, current winner of the José Ignacio Domecq and runner-up in the Conde de Guaqui, sets the brilliant Tomás Fernández-Llorente in its squad again, an icon in Sotogrande who has won numerous Gold and Silver Cups in High Goal. Silex, on the other side, was the team winning more cups in Santa María Polo Club during 2014. They trust again in the Torreguitars to balance a team completed by Mike Henderson (4) and patron Richard Fagan.

Silex is also playing in Low Goal, what allows the team to achieve a rare historical triumph in a Polo Season: being the best in both categories. Two teams will try to avoid this feat by winning the final games in the Easter Season Low Goal Tournament: Royal Guard of the Kingdom of Morocco and Flying Squad.

BRUNCH AND TAPAS TO MAKE YOUR DAY.   #NoSoloPolo

We have got a surprise for you, in order to enjoy the evenings with your friends or family and delight the best flavours. Chez Vous Catering, known all around the Costa del Sol for its quality and imagination, has designed us a magnificent Tapas Menu and a delicious Brunch. Los Pinos’ pavilion upper area will be open during the Spring season. This is the ideal place to have a snack, a drink or, if you want something more private, to reserve your “executive box”. Music, entertainment, tapas and drinks to enjoy the polo game.

Spring Polo Shopping, the coolest pop-up store in Sotogrande, lands in Santa María Polo Club as every year in a spring wind&water-proof style. Los Pinos Pavilion farewells the winter and comes to life in March 28, when the XXXVI José Ignacio Domecq Memorial starts. This attractive shopping area will host different brands and artists in order to find whatever whim you could want. Some of the confirmed brands are:
