ENGLAND TO TAKE ON SOUTH AMERICA IN THE FIRST UK POLO INTERNATIONAL OF 2011

England will meet a South American side in the first polo international match of the UK’s 2011 season when The St. Regis International Cup takes place at Cowdray Park, Midhurst, West Sussex, on Saturday 21 May.

Having narrowly lost to South America when the two sides last met at Cowdray Park in 2007, the Audi-sponsored England team will be hoping to reverse the outcome and secure an early season win.  South America will be fielding a strong team, this time backed by leading watch-makers Jaeger-LeCoultre, and the England players will need every ounce of support from the home crowd.  In last year’s St. Regis International Cup, the match went into extra time with a victory for England over South Africa at 12-11, making for a truly exciting climax.

The international match will take place at 3.30pm and is preceded by the Final of the British Ladies Open Tournament. Women’s polo is the fastest growing sector of the sport and the Final will be the all-action culmination of a hard fought tournament.

To enjoy to the full the high octane sporting action on the world-famous Cowdray Lawns, visitors can reserve a pitchside picnic spot for a front row view. As well as a children’s mini funfair, there are excellent trade stands offering a range of fashion and country goodies, food outlets and bars.  And, at half-time, during the traditional treading in of the divots, there’s a chance to win 10,000 Air Miles, courtesy of The Mileage Company, by finding a champagne cork hidden on the pitch.

Entrance is just £10 per adult (under 12s free). Some arena-side picnic sites are still available (for 8 people and two cars) at £150 (Cowdray members £95), guaranteeing all the adrenaline you could possibly want from a sporting event.
