DUBAI WON THE HIGH GOAL GLOBANT GOLD CUP; ESTANCIA LAMAR CELEBRATED IN THE LOW
HANDICAP
(San Roque, August 27, 2022)
A vibrant day of definitions took place this Saturday in
Sotogrande, in Los Pinos, with two finals that kept the spectators on edge until the final
moment. In the main match of the day, on court number 3, Dubai beat Marqués de Riscal 12-9
and celebrated the double in this 51st Sotogrande International Polo Tournament, since only
two weeks ago it had also been consecrated as champion of the Terralpa Silver Cup.
But Marqués de Riscal, defending champion, had managed to be the one who struck from the
start, turning the result around and closing the opening quarter with a 2-1 lead. ahead on the
scoreboard, but also began to dominate in the different facets of the game. In any case, and
after having reached halftime with a 3-goal deficit, Marqués de Riscal found his way from the
fourth chukker, which would lead him to remain expectant in the fight.
So much so, that after having approached the score on several occasions, they managed to
reach equality in the sixth period, when the board showed that the match was tied at 9 after a
penalty from 60 yards scored by Guillermo Caset. But if there was something that Dubai showed
throughout these weeks in Sotogrande, it was that in hand-to-hand, in the kill game, they
always knew how to be dominant. And this time was not the exception.
In a game in which Camilo Castagnola, the great figure of the season, could not be as decisive
as he had been in previous games, the figure of his teammates was gigantic, both in defense
and attack. Although the norm had been that Camilo Castagnola defined the great part of
Dubai’s actions, the end of the match found him officiating as an assistant, a role in which he
combined very well so that the Englishman Matt Perry was dispatched with 3 consecutive goals
so that Dubai will celebrate the long-awaited title.
For its part, in the Low Handicap, Estancia Lamar, who during the Bronze and Silver Cups had
not been able to display his best polo, found his best version in this Globant Gold Cup, which
led him to face San Leonardo in the grand finale. There, and after overcoming a very good start
from his rival, he ended up winning 12-11 in the extra chukker and kept the trophy.
After the finals of the High and Low Globant Gold Cups, it was time for the awards ceremony.
Participants included: Luis Ureta, General Country Manager of Globant Spain; Patricia Pomies, Chief
Operating Officer of Globant; Federico Pienovi, Chief Business Officer EMEA of Globant; Carolina
Beresford, of Globant Ventures; Rita Jordao, Director of Marketing and Sales of La Reserva; Antonio
Sanz Cabello, Counselor of the Presidency; Fernando Sirimarco, from Backhander; Juan Manuel
Ordoñez, Accidental Mayor of San Roque; José María Garrido, representing COVAP; and Authorities
