Gold Cup – Day 16 & Quarter Finals Set

The final day of league stage matches took place at Cowdray Park Polo Club on Wednesday 10th July finalising the teams going straight to Quarters and those who would compete in penalty shoot out.
Match 1
UAE Polo Team won against Green Gates 2

UAE Polo Team won against Green Gates 3

Another tough match up with all to play for, both teams went into this match 2-1 down in the league tables. A loss here would be the difference between penalty shoot out or home time and the tension was palpable. UAE were leading comfortably throughout the first half, going into halftime 9-2 up. Green Gates, knowing that they needed to make a herculean effort to rescue their chance had an incredible 5th chukka, bringing the score back to within 2 but it was not enough to save their day and Lukin Monteverde and Teodoro Lacau’s attacking power proved too much.

La Dolfina Great Oaks won against Park Place3
It was a sad day for Park Place as their loss to La Dolfina Great Oaks meant they lost their shot at a quarter final place. Even the power duo of Hilario Ulloa and Britos wasn’t enough to put a dent in the La Dolfina Great Oaks attack and their sleek team plays won them the match leaving them undefeated in the league stages having already secured their quarters spot.

Valhalla won against White Crane by a score3
The match of the day, this exciting all to play for game meant survival for one team and a spot in the Quarters for the other and it was Valhalla’s day securing their Quarter final place after an overtime win in one of the most exhilarating games of the tournament so far. It was Panelo vs Panelo as this epic battle went into overtime thanks to an equalising goal from Benjamin Panelo in the last minute of the 6th chukka and it was Benja again who sealed the deal with a great run to goal after an assist from Jack Richardson. Lottie Lamacraft was subbing in for Just MacRae and did an excellent job at clearing space while Cappella was impressive from the back, sending huge passes up to his teammates. Great defence and attacking play from White Crane saw the two teams evenly matched throughout but White Crane’s inability to find the posts in the final chukka gave Valhalla all the opportunity they needed to equalise and power through to that win.
