Grit and Glamour Combine at 2012 Ladies International Polo Tournament in Singapore

Singapore Paralympian Gemma Rose Foo graces event as guest-of-honour

Grit and glamour combine at the upcoming 2012 Ladies International Polo Tournament from 10 to 14 October 2012. Organised by the Singapore Polo Club (SPC), this event is an official qualifier for the international Women’s Championship Tournament (WCT). WCT is a global competition that represents the largest polo tournament series in the world where the top polo players compete. Underscoring the grit required for any sporting endeavour and celebrating the spirit of perserverance and inspiration, finals day will be graced by guest-of-honour and equestrian, Gemma Rose Foo, who recently competed in the London Paralympic Games 2012 as part of the Team Singapore contingent.

Competing for the coveted title are four teams comprising of international professional and SPC players including Singapore and Asia’s highest rated female polo player Lynly Fong, an SPC member. Visiting professionals include Sunny Hale (three-goal handicap), the highest rated female polo player in the United States; Lia Salvo (two-goal handicap) from Argentina; Sherri-Lyn Hensman (two-goal handicap) from Zimbabwe; Sarah Wiseman, Hazel Jackson, Claire Donnelly and Stephanie Haverhals from the United Kingdom, each playing off a one-goal handicap.

Preliminary matches will be played on Thursday 11 October and semi-finals on Saturday 13 October. Tournament finals will be played on Sunday 14 October with the teams competing for 3rd and 4th, 1st and 2nd placing respectively.

The tournament will observe Hurlingham Polo Association Rules 2012.
