Gulf Co–Operation Council Day at Guards

Gulf Co-Operation Council Day at Guards

The GCC team retained their trophy at Guards Polo Club on Wednesday, 17th June, after defeating an invited Guards team 4.5 – 3. The GCC team, which received a half goal on handicap at the start of the game, dominated the first half, leading 3.5-0 at the end of the second chukka. The home side, featuring four patrons – Rachael Bartels of Mei Kwei Lu, Roger Carlsson of the high-goal Billingbear team, Clive Reid, patron of AFB, and Louis Bacon, the Great Oaks patron came back into the game in the second half and closed the gap but could not stop the GCC team claiming a third successive victory.

Salman Alhamrani, who had been on great form for Harrow School in the Jack Wills Varsity Day at Guards earlier in the month, received the Most Valuable Player Award, which was presented by HM The Queen and HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Ahmed Bin Abulazinz Al Saud, Chairman of the Atheeb Group. Looking on was Mr Basil Al Ghalayini, chairman of  the BMG Foundation, organisers of the Gulf  Co-Operation Council Day at Guards Polo Club, which raises thousands of pounds for charities in the UK and in the Middle East.
