Watergate Bay Hotel has unveiled details for Great Western Railway (GWR) Polo on the Beach, which returns to Watergate Bay from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 June 2015. As always, it is free to attend.

The award-winning event has been expanded to a three-day format supported by new headline sponsor, Great Western Railway, and will include two polo matches as well as beach and arena entertainment, live music, and food and drink.

GWR Polo on the Beach will also stage its first ever beach party on Saturday 27 June. Entertainment includes live bands and music from international DJ Krystal Roxx, who is signed to record label Hed Kandi. Early bird tickets for the beach party are on sale now and are priced at £20 per person from http://www.watergatebay.co.uk/polo/party-tickets/.

Watergate Bay Hotel’s Will Ashworth said: “GWR Polo on the Beach is our biggest event of the season. We’ve added an extra day to this year’s format for a fantastic festival-style celebration, and a wonderful free weekend of entertainment.

“This event is made possible by the generous support of our sponsors. We’re delighted to announce that Great Western Railway have increased their commitment to the event to become headline sponsor of this year’s Polo on the Beach, building on a four year partnership with us.”

The country’s longest-running beach polo spectacle, GWR Polo on the Beach features supercharged high goal polo alongside equine stunt displays, live music, beach entertainment, pop-up shops, a beach bar, and delicious food and drink from a selection of street food vendors.

The event begins on Friday afternoon as Team Cornwall compete in the weekend’s first match at 6pm. Following trophy presentations, visitors can enjoy a night of live music on the beach from local bands and musicians. A beach bar and Champagne Airstream will be serving drinks, and food will also be available.

On Saturday, The Devil’s Horsemen stunt team, who tour with their shows globally, will be performing in the arena. The afternoon will focus on the highly anticipated Watergate Bay Trophy match featuring Team Joules. Spectators will have unrivalled access to watch some of the country’s highest-handicapped players compete to win the title.

Family entertainment continues on Sunday with further arena and beach activities. The Rockwood Dog Display Team are appearing with dramatic routines, tricks and relay races. Spectators are welcome to enter their canine companion in a fun dog show hosted by St Francis Home for Animals. The Watergate Bay Surf Lifesaving Club will also be on the beach doing rescue demonstrations and training.

More than 10,000 spectators attended the 2014 edition of Polo on the Beach. The weekend included highly-competitive polo matches featuring top UK players Jamie Le Hardy, Andrew Blake-Thomas and his brother Richard, and former television Gladiator and athlete Amy Guy.

Jamie Anderson, campaigns manager for Great Western Railway, said: “Cornwall is an important destination on our network with its own rural and coastal identity. We wanted to grow our involvement with Polo on the Beach which is established as a firm fixture in the county’s social calendar.

“We’re planning lots of interactive, fun activities which we’ll be bringing to the beach to celebrate our fifth year working with the event. It’s getting bigger and better every year.”

Early bird tickets for the GWR Polo on the Beach Party on Saturday 27 June cost £20 per person, and are available to purchase from http://www.watergatebay.co.uk/polo/party-tickets/. Krystal Roxx, who tours with international pop star and songwriter Taio Cruz, will headline the event.
