Herbie Pennell Cup: San Saba vs. Isla Carroll

San Saba Takes Pennell Cup

By Alex Webbe

In earlier 20-goal action, Tommy Lee Jones scored three times to lead his San Saba team to a 6-3 win over a sluggish Isla Carroll team that couldn’t find its offense.

Jones scored three of his teams four first half goals as San Saba sat on top of a 4-3 halftime lead.  Little did Isla Carroll know that it had scored its last goal of the game.

Bo Goodman replaced his uncle John on the Isla Carroll team in the fourth period and Jones sat out as Gloria de Angelo came in for San Saba, but there would be little offense in the final three chukkers.

Single goals from de Angelo in the fourth and sixth chukkers closed out the scoring for the day, and San Saba captured the 2009 Herbie Pennell Cup on the strength of a 6-3 win.

Owen Rinehart’s Jezebel was named Best Playing Pony.  Bo Goodman received MVP honors.
