Horseplay Productions in association with Hurlingham Polo brings you the Piaget USPA Gold Cup live from the United States

By Victoria Elsbury-Legg

If you’re currently located in one of the more wintery areas of the polo world and you are looking for sun to accessorise your high goal polo, then the International Polo Club Palm Beach is definitely the place to be, especially as the second tournament in the American Triple Crown begins this week with the opening match of the Piaget USAP Gold Cup (26 goal).

For those who are unable to hop on a plane and head out to the Florida sun, live polo is being streamed via Hurlingham Polo TV in association with Horseplay Productions.  Last Sunday the CV Whitney Final (the first final of the American Triple Crown) took place and proved to be an exciting game with many great plays from both Facundo Pieres and Julian Mannix, if you missed the live stream, a replay of the Final is now on Hurlingham: https://www.hurlinghampolo.com/polotv/play_video/212/2015%20C%20V%20Whitney%20Final

Ty MacCarty, Chief Editor Horseplay Productions explains how the idea of live streaming polo was conceived:

‘The idea for the company originated after the US Open in 2011 where fans and players continually complained about the umpiring. The founders of the company began to utilize their combined understanding of polo and experience with extreme sports cinematography to revolutionize the sport.

Horseplay Productions first introduced filming the game with a drone in 2013 and currently we are working with USPA umpires to provide instant replay for 26 goal tournaments. Horseplay’s live aerial camera feed enables umpires to accept challenges from players during games. The footage provides irrefutable evidence for the replay official to accept or override a challenged call.

Along with instant replay, Horseplay Productions produces high quality video products by combining aerial views, ultra-slow motion, robotic head cameras, and first person body cameras. They have now recently utilised their experience and technology to offer live streaming matches and hosting on demand videos of full games. Our goal is to grow and evolve the sport of polo through creative uses of filming technology.’

This Sunday the 3pm (8pm GMT) Piaget USPA Gold Cup match Valiente v Orchard Hill will be live streamed on www.hurlinghampolo.com using Horseplay Production’s cutting edge technology  featuring slow motion camera shots edited together with video captured by drones to bring the very best in polo action straight into your home.

Prior to Sunday’s game, the tournament’s opening match  will be played this Thursday 5th March at 10am, when the 2015 winners of the CV Whitney Cup – Orchard Hill (and once again the power of the two Pieres) meet Coca Cola – the winners of the 2015 Ylvisaker Cup (albeit with a slightly altered line up to their 20 goal team).

First hosted by The International Polo Club Palm Beach in 2007 (prior to which the tournament has been played at a number of clubs since it first began in 1974 at the Oakbrook Polo Club in Illinois), plenty of highly charged on-pitch action is guaranteed to be seen during the 2015 tournament which runs from Thursday 5th – Sunday 22nd March, as eight teams compete to lift the cup that is intended to be ‘a symbol of professionalism, good sportsmanship and high goal at its finest.’

The Piaget USPA Gold Cup Final and the Engel & Völkers Tesoro Cup (Subsidiary Final) will be played on Sunday 22nd March 2015.
