HPA NAME ENGLAND TEAM FOR THE WESTCHESTER CUP FOR THE AUDI INTERNATIONAL AT GUARDS POLO CLUB, WINDSOR GREAT PARK

Following the first of the 3-match Audi International Series against South Africa, Luke Tomlinson has accepted the invitation to captain the England team who will defend the Westchester Cup against the United States of America as part of the Audi International at Guards Polo Club, Windsor Great Park on Sunday 28th July.  This will be the 8th time that Luke has led the England team on to the field for the annual International at Smiths lawn.

However this year, the England Team, in keeping with the traditions and rules of the fixture since its post war revival, will include a Commonwealth player.  In 1992 and 1997 Cody Forsyth from New Zealand filled the number 2 position on both occasions.  In 2013 John Paul Clarkin also from New Zealand and playing off 8 goals has accepted the invitation to play at number 3 in the England Team.  Playing in front of John Paul and Luke Tomlinson will be James Beim off 7 goals and Luke’s younger brother Mark off 6 goals, making the team 28 goals.

“We are thrilled that John Paul has agreed to play and so continue the tradition of including a Commonwealth player in the Audi England team to face the USA for the Westchester Cup. He brings a huge amount of experience and is no stranger to playing with members of the English team having won the Gold Cup with Luke and Mark Tomlinson in 2003,” commented John Tinsley chairman of selectors for the Hurlingham Polo Association.

The USA has yet to nominate its team, which will be supported by Equus & Co, but they have been invited to field a 26 – 29 goal team. Marc Ganzi, who fielded the US team for the Cowdray Test Match last year, has been instrumental in supporting the US challenge and is working closely with the USPA on the final line up.
