Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall welcomed a group of Brooke USA supporters to an afternoon tea on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in aid of the charity at The Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II surprised the Brooke guests by attending the event which included a demonstration performed by Brooke Global Ambassador Monty Roberts.

As President of the Brooke, the world’s largest international equine welfare organization, The Duchess of Cornwall hosted the event at the Royal Mews to highlight the excellent work of the organization and to celebrate the hard work of its dedicated supporters.

Longtime Brooke supporters Fritz and Claudine Kundrun, William Bernhard and Catherine Cahill, along with Brooke USA Ambassador Margaret Duprey, were invited to the event where they were first treated to a private tour of the royal stables in the Royal Mews. Her Majesty The Queen and Her Royal Highness then joined guests to watch a demonstration by horse whisperer and Brooke Global Ambassador Monty Roberts, after which they enjoyed afternoon tea with The Duchess of Cornwall.

As the world’s largest international equine welfare charity, the Brooke’s mission is to alleviate the suffering of working horses, donkeys, and mules in the developing world, where motorized vehicles are not an option for the majority of the population. Consequently it is not unusual for an entire extended family to depend on the income from a single donkey for all their needs. But even beyond the needs of the one family, entire communities rely on the work of these patient animals.

For more than 80 years the Brooke has helped owners to implement sustainable, culturally relevant solutions to enormous animal welfare challenges. They ensure that the right elements are in place for working horses, donkeys and mules to be healthy and happy now and in the long-term by providing scientifically proven methods to improve the welfare of the animals.

Last year alone, the Brooke reached approximately 1.8 million working equines, primarily in

Egypt, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nepal, Senegal, Jordan, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. The Brooke has also recently launched a pilot program to assist working equines in Mexico.
