Hurlingham Club Open – Day 2

On Field 6 of the Alfredo Lalor Venue, the third Quarterfinal match of the 131st Hurlingham Club Open presented by Triumph was played on Wednesday 9/25, in which the traditional Ayrshire Cup and the Drysdale Subsidiary are at stake.

La Dolfina Saudi began the defense of its title won in 2023 with a clear victory over Indios Chapaleufú Vista Energy by 23 to 9.

In this way, the winner qualified for the semifinal of the Open, while the loser will play the same instance, but from the subsidiary Drysdale.

Although the young team from Chapaleufú – which had the debut of Antonio Heguy in Triple Crown – fought hard in the first period and in fact, scored the opening goal of the match, by the hand of Torito Ruiz, it could not put the current champion of Hurlingham in trouble.

With a Poroto, with 100% effectiveness in the execution of fouls, plus the slick team game that the boys of Cañuelas usually have, La Dolfina Saudi was gradually taking advantages until reaching the final 23-9 that deposits it in the second semifinal, to be played on Sunday 29 in Palermo.

On Chapa’s side, he left a good image in his debut and will try to fight for a place in the final of the Subsidiary.

Teams and progression:

La Dolfina Saudi: Adolfo Cambiaso (h) 10 (5 goals), David Stirling (h) 10 (2), Adolfo Cambiaso (n) 10 (12, nine penalties) and Juan M. Nero 10 (4). Total: 40.

Indios Chapaleufú Vista Energy: Antonio Heguy 7 (2), Victorino Ruiz Jorba 8 (4) (Received a yellow card in the fourth chukker), Cruz Heguy 8 (2 penalties) and Teodoro Lacau 8 (1). Total: 31.

La Dolfina Saudi: 3-2, 7-3, 8-4, 12-5, 15-6, 17-6, 20-6 and 23-9.

Judges: Martín Pascual and José I. Araya. Arbitrator: Hernán Tasso.

In the  second match, Ellerstina UAE Yellow Rose and La Ensenada Dietrich faced each other on Wednesday 25/9 on field 2 at Pilar for the last match of the Quarterfinals.

The victory corresponded to the first of the named by 19 to 12, which thus qualified to play the second semi-final of the tournament against La Dolfina Saudi, the defending champion of the tournament, in a match that will be played next Sunday 26/9 on Field 2 in Palermo

In what was expected to be the most even match of the “Quarters”, the new formation of the Ellerstina played an exceptional game, led by the only Pieres left in the team, Gonzalito; that together with the enormous goalscoring ability of Sapo Caset, the great defense of the South African Nachi Du Plessis and the great game played by Lukín Monteverde -today he looked like a veteran and not a young talent of 18 years old-; they managed to defeat the great team from La Ensenada from the beginning, which had Jero del Carril as its best value on the day.

Great test for this new team from Ellerstina, which will play the semi-final of the Open; and a small step back in the team of La Ensenada Dietrich, which has much more to give and will try to show its best side next Sunday in Pilar against the boys of Indios Chapaleufú Vista Energy.
