V Nations Cup “Guillermo Li 2012”

Once again, the Peruvian Polo Season has started. This year’s “V Copa de las Naciones BMW – Guillermo Li 2012 ” had 8 teams, each with at least one international player from Australia, Argentina, Chile, Mexico or Colombia. Already considered a classic, polo enthusiasts from all over landed on Lima, and travelled 75km south to the beautiful Cortijo Polo Club. 


The tournament, brought this year by BMW started with an opening dinner party on February 24th, where polo players were able to enjoy delicious Peruvian food and cocktails. The next 10 days until March 3rd (Finals) where filled with polo games and social activities. Some even dared to travel to the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu. 


The final was played between Chile – Calera (Renato Rider, Estuardo Masias, Iago Masias, Santiago de Osma and Robert McDonald) and Colombia – Cortijo/Murguia (Ricardo Espinal, Manuel Elguera, Ignacio Masias and Guillermo Li).  Final score 5 – 3 for Colombia-Cortijo.

The subsidiary final (Martina Cup) was played between Argentina-Calera II (Santiago Casartelli, Estuardo Masias Malaga, Estuardo Masías Moreyra, Lorenzo Masias and Jose Miguel Plaza) and Australia-Col (Geofry Stowe, Esteban Uribe, Juan Carlos Rizo Patron, Jose Aramburu, Antenor Rizo Patron). Final score 5.5 – 2 for Argentina-Calera II.

 

Estuardo Masías Marrou was the tournaments Most Valuable Player (MVP); Santiago Casartelli was the tournaments high scorer; and “La Nacion”, owned and played by Guillermo Li, was priced as the best playing pony.


After the awards ceremony the teams and friends celebrated at closing party.
