INDIA BEAT ENGLAND IN THE JOHNNIE WALKER INTERNATIONAL POLO TEST MATCH

India lift the Johnnie Walker International Polo Test Match trophy beating visiting England team by 6 goals to 4 at the Jaipur Polo Ground, New Delhi. General V K Singh, PVSM,AVSM,YSM,ADC, Chief of the Army Staff and President Indian Polo Association gave away the prizes to the winning team and Mr Roland Abella, Managing Director, Indian Operations, Diageo India Pvt Ltd presented the runners up prizes. Damyanti Polo Pony from Mr Baljinder Singh Dhillons stables was adjudged the Best Polo Pony for the match.


The test match played today between India and England was a huge success and witnessed by a large gathering at the Jaipur Polo Ground. The stand was fully packed and spectators enjoyed the match till the last bugle. The match was played at fast pace and was very closely contested. India put pressure on the England team from the very begging of the 1st chukker and scored a brilliant goal by Col Tarun Sirohi. The score was 1-0 in favour of India. In the 2nd chukker, Mr Satnam Singh Dhillon of England scored a goal to level the score 1-1. Mr Samir Suhag converted two 60 yard penalties into goal and took the lead of India by 3-1 but Mr James Carr scored one goal to reduce the margin 2-3. In the beginning of the 3rd chukker, Mr Eden Omerod scored one goal to level the score 3-3 but Samir Suhag once again converted a 60 yard penalty to take the lead 4-3. In the 4th cchcukker Mr Satnam Singh Dhillon scored a goal to level the score 4-4 but Major Ravi Rathore scored a brilliant goal in the dying seconds of the 4th chukker to take the lead of India 5-4. In the last chukker, both teams came forward with their best polo ponies and tried their best level to overpower each other but India goat a foul and Mr Samir Suhag once again converted a 60 yard penalty into goal to ensure the victory.


The final score was 6-4 in favour of India. Scorers for India were Samir Suhag (4 all through 60 yard penalty) , Maj Ravi Rathore and Col Tarun Sirohi contributed one goal each. Scorers for England were – Mr Satnam Singh Dhillon (2), Mr James Carr and Mr Eden Ormerod contributed one goal each.
