It’s all smiles at The County Cup Final

Cirencester Park Polo Club – the oldest polo in England is celebrating its 120th Anniversary this season. As in my seasons past (with August being the month that traditionally teams have chosen to enter tournaments and play at Cirencester) this Sunday players alongside their families and fans once again gathered for lunch in a Clubhouse still very much rooted in the history of the Club, to watch the finals of the last 15 goal Victor Ludorum of the season – The County Cup.
This year the tournament began on Monday 4th August when Cadneza Juniors met Creed Polo, followed by further league matches played between Trewsbury, Emlor and the 2013 winners, Blenheim Palace. In the Subsidiary Final Cadneza Juniors (Charlie Pidgley, Richard Le Poer, Will Emerson and Peter Webb) once again faced Creed Polo (Steve Rigby, Tommy Iriarte, Matias Amaya and Tomas Ruiz Guinazu) who they had beaten 8-6 in their opening match, with Cadneza Juniors once again the victors winning the Subsidiary Finals 7.5 – 5
On Sunday it was also to be a smiling Blenheim Palace’s day, as the team of English gentlemen – George Sunderland, Ollie Cudmore, George Meyrick and Dave Allen once again held aloof The County Cup, in a game where just half a goal won the match, as Spencer and James McCarthy’s with pros Nacho Gonzalez and Manolo Fernandez-Llorente rode off the pitch with a scoreboard reading Emlor 9-9.5 Blenheim Palace.
