Jaeger–LeCoultre Snow Polo Cup final

Jaeger-LeCoultre Snow Polo Cup

The first edition of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Snow Polo Cup, organised by Santa Maria Polo Club at Sierra Nevada, Granada, Spain, reached its climax yesterday, Sunday, 14th March.

Two sensational matches marked the final of this tournament, which was a great success

The Jaeger-LeCoultre team of Richard Fagan, Hernan Pieres and Jack Kidd claimed the title, after defeating Casablanca (Carlos Pinal, Alejo Taranco and Gonzalo Munoz Escasi) 9 – 4 ½ in the final.

Jack Kidd scored the opening goal for his team, which was quickly answered by Alejo Taranco, but Jaeger-LeCoultre took an early advantage and ended the first chukka 4 – 2 ½ with goals by Hernan Pieres and Richard Fagan.

Jaeger-LeCoultre extended their advantage in the second chukka to 5 – 3 1/2 and from then on everything was in their favour as despite a great attempt from Casablanca they could not increase the scores. Two goals by Jack Kidd and one by Hernan Pieres in the third chukka, another from Jack in the fourth answered by a single goal from Alejo Taranco for Casablanca, from a converted penalty, secured the final score at 9 – 4 ½ .

Earlier in the day Santa Maria narrowly defeated Peninsula 7 – 6 in a very exciting subsidiary final. Santa María’s Mario Gómez, and Península’s George Meyrick, displayed their great polo skills and were possibly the best players of the day. The winning goal was scored by Nacho Domecq in the dying minutes of match.
