Wellington, FL – January 25, 2016 – Orchard Hill scattered a bewildered Dubai all over the Valiente field Monday, taking a 17-9 victory in the Joe Barry Cup. But as the saying goes, tomorrow’s another day. Both teams still have a chance to advance to the semifinals, along with the other 2-1 teams (Audi/Millarville, Villa del Lago and Palm Beach Illustrated/Technogym). Tuesday’s shootout at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) will determine which teams will join undefeated Enigma in Thursday’s semis.

Until Monday’s debacle, Dubai was undefeated. But this time even its dynamic duo, Diego Cavanaugh and Alejo Taranco, could not save the day. But when you’re up against polo’s equivalent of Batman and Robin (otherwise known as Polito Pieres and Peke Gonzales), the odds are against you. The “P-team” made all but two of Orchard Hill’s goals, most of them at dizzying speed. The Boy Wonder (Gonzales is only 15) scored in the first 15 seconds of play, promptly followed by two Pieres goals. Scoreless in the first chukker, Dubai never recovered. Orchard Hill held a consistent 3- to 5-point lead until the fifth chukker, when it came in for the kill, snatching a 10-goal lead (17-7). Cavanaugh and Taranco each scored in the final chukker and kept Orchard Hill off the board, but the damage was already done.
