Nine Teams to Take Part in Highly-Anticipated Julius Baer Gold Cup

 

 

Julius Baer, the leading Swiss private bank, has announced that it will be the title and a team sponsor for the Dubai Gold Cup 2016, part of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series, for the second consecutive time.

 

The Julius Baer Gold Cup (Dubai Open), the UAE’s premier polo tournament, will take place from Friday, February 19, 2016 to Friday, March 11, 2016. A record number of teams will vie for this year’s title. 

 

A high-profile panel will conduct a live draw for the highly-anticipated tournament at The St. Regis Dubai at Al Habtoor City on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 10am in the Astor Ballroom. 

 

The panel will consist of Mohammed Al Habtoor, Founder of the event, and Patron of the Julius Baer Polo Team by Habtoor. He will be joined by Daniel Savary, Julius Baer’s head of the sub-region Middle East; Karl Hamer, Managing Director, Al Habtoor Motors (Bentley Emirates); Cesar Ruis, Julius Baer Gold Cup Tournament Director. Also present will be Rainer Kern from German watchmakers Moritz Grossman, new sponsors of the tournament. 

 

The Julius Baer Gold Cup (Dubai Open), an 18 goal handicap competition, is part of the Gold Cup Series. It immediately follows the McLaren Cup 2016. The event is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.  The tournament, played under HPA rules, is now in its seventh year. It has grown significantly since inception. 

 

Mohammed Al Habtoor said, “Each year the event gets better and better. This year we are proud to host nine strong teams, so the competition is going to be very tough.”

 

The event is played at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club in the Arabian Ranches.

Winners of the Julius Baer Gold Cup will be awarded with an iconic timepieces worth half a million dirhams, while Subsidiary Cup winners will receive a Bentley car for the period of one month.

Indicative of its long lasting commitment to polo, Julius Baer was previously the title sponsor of the Julius Baer Beach Polo Cup from 2013 to 2014, and the Cartier International Dubai Polo Challenge from 2010 to 2012. Julius Baer has also supported other international events such as the Audi Polo Awards held in London and the Ascona Polo Cup in Switzerland.
