Little Owl devours Yellow Cab, 14-6

Yellow Cab rolled out the big guns in 7-goaler Pablo Spinacci and 9-goaler Lucas Monteverde, but it was the balanced attack of the Little Owl foursome that inflicted all of the damage in the opening game of the 2011 16-goal Everglades Classic Saturday morning as they spanked Yellow Cab 14-6.

Little Owl flew off to an early 3-0 lead on goals from J. P. Uihlein, Jason Crowder and Chris Nevins before Yellow Cab finally got on the scoreboard on a goal from the field from Spinacci.

The Yellow Cab defense tightened in the second chukker, allowing only a single goal from Crowder, but had no offense of its own as the period ended with Little Owl up, 4-1.

Two more goals from Nevins and a goal from Joe Wayne Barry had the Little Owl offense buzzing, but Yellow Cab responded with goals from Spinacci and Monteverde, settling for a four goal, 7-3 deficit at the end of the first half.

Both teams blitzed the opposing goals, with all four goals in the chukker coming on penalty shots.   Nevins and Crowder each converted penalty shots for goals for Little Owl while Spinacci and Monteverde each converted penalty shots for goals for Yellow Cab.

Crowder scored his fourth goal of the game in the fifth period on a penalty shot with Yellow Cab’s Jeff Garber responding with a goal from the field.  With seven minutes left to play Little Owl owned a 10-6 lead.

The final chukker of the match belonged to Little Owl who put four goals on the scoreboard while an impotent Yellow Cab offense could do little more than watch.  A pair of goals from Crowder and single goals from Nevins and Barry spelled the final eight goal margin of victory in the 14-6 Little Owl win.
