Matrix downs Kentfield, 9-3, in Jackalope Ranch Finals

By Alex Webbe

Kentfield
(Cameron Smith, Roxy Keyfauver, Ernesto Bautista and Erik Hammon) hung in for
the first two chukkers of the finals of the Jackalope Ranch Cup finals Sunday
afternoon at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, but the second half was
all Matrix (Shane Flock, Doug Schneider, Ashton Wolf and Jared Sheldon) as they
rolled on to a 9-3 win.

Ashton Wolf opened the game with a pair of
goals in the first chukker for an early 2-0 lead before Kentfield answered
back.  S goal from Erik Hammon ended the
scoring with Matrix holding on to a narrow 2-1 lead.

Two more goals from Wolf stretched the Matrix
lead to 4-1, with Kentfield struggling to shut down the talented 3-goaler.  Another goal from Hammon ended the period,
but Matrix rode off the field with a 4-2 halftime advantage.

Goals were harder to come by in the third,
with Matrix missing on a number of shots from the field.  Jared Sheldon scored his first goal of the day
for Matrix while Hammon’s third goal of the match kept Kentfield hanging
around, waiting for Matrix to stumble.
After three chukkers of play, Matrix continued to hold a two goal lead,
5-3.

The fourth chukker belonged to Matrix as they
scored four unanswered goals on Kentfield for a 9-3 final.  Sheldon scored the first two goals of the
chukker followed by goals from Wolf and Doug Schneider.  Kentfield was neither able to stop the Matrix
offense or create any scoring opportunities of their own.

Wolf led the field with five goals on the
day.  Sheldon scored three times and
Schneider added a goal in the win.

Hammon accounted for all three of the
Kentfield goals.

KINGSCLIFFE 8, HEROES & ZEROS 4

Earlier in the day, Kingscliffe (Kendra Clark, Kate
Ewart, Santos Areolla and Brad Ramsby) jumped all over Heroes & Zeros (Fred
Schneeberger, Suki Piper, Pepe Alcaraz, Lolo Payan and Goyo Mariscal) in the opening
chukker and rolled on to an 8-4 win in the consolation round of the Jackalope
Ranch Cup.

Lolo Payan scored the first goal of the game for Heroes
& Zeros before Kingscliffe responded with three unanswered goals. Kate Ewart
answered with the tying goal, 1-1, followed by three consecutive goals from Brad
Ramsby as Kingscliffe took a 4-1 first chukker lead.

Payan opened the second chukker with a goal for Heroes
& Zeros as the defense tightened.  Santos
Areolla managed a single goal for Kingscliffe and the period ended with Heroes
& Zeros trailing 5-1 at the end of the first half.

Single goals by Areolla and Ramsby accounted for the only
scoring in the third chukker as the Heroes & Zeros continued to look for a
scoring punch.  After three periods of
play, Kingscliffe held a commanding 7-2 advantage over a disorganized Heroes
& Zeros lineup.

Ewart’s second goal of the game had Kingscliffe up 8-2
before the Heroes & Zeros got found their scoring punch.  Single goals from Payan and Goyo Mariscal
closed out the game with Kingscliffe claiming the 8-4 win.

Ramsby led all scoring with four goals.  Teammates Areolla and Ewart added two goals
apiece in the win.

Payan scored three goals for the Heroes & Zeros.  Mariscal accounted for a single goal in the
loss.
