Moscow Polo Club’s 2012 Season

Moscow Polo Club’s 2012 Season

With Snow Polo increasing in popularity around the globe, the Moscow Polo Club kicked off its 2012 season with their annual Russian Snow Polo Championship at the club in Tseleevo, some 60km north of the Citycenter. The Tseleevo club must be one of the only clubs in the world with a winter ski club with a dedicated clubhouse and artificial skiruns!

The day was a relatively mild one for a Russian winter, with temperature sat only 2 C degrees below zero, with some light snow showers. Long-term Moscow Polo Club sponsors Beluga Vodka provided hot punch for the guests, while Ahmad Tea provided tea and Jura provided coffee.  As it was the last day of Maslenitsa (Mardi Gras), thefestive mood was enhanced by hot crêpes provided by the club’sin-house caterer.

Three teams competed for the title in a round robin tournament, including ateam from the President’s Polo Club. With a snow field of 150 meters long by 80 meters wide, the teams had plenty of room to playfast-moving chukkas, despite the powdery snow surface.

Land Rover claimed the 2012 title by first beating both Beluga (3-1) andthen PPC 4-2.  Beluga was second, losing to Rover (1-3) butbeating PPC (3-0).

Land Rover’s Evgeniy Ovcharov was voted Most Valuable Player and Rocket, owned by MPC President Alexis Rodzianko won Best Playing Pony.
