Mounties and music on Club’s Canada day

Royal Canadian Mounted Police and The Canadian Tenors come to Guards Polo Club on Monday 7 May 2012

Guards Polo Club is hosting a unique event this May Bank Holiday, Mounties Day, held in celebration of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who will be in the UK as part of HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Riding members of the Royal Canadian Police, affectionately known as Mounties, will parade before that afternoon’s polo at Europe’s leading polo club.

Guards Polo Club has strong links with Canada – not least through its Chairman, Jock Green-Armytage. He regularly divides his time between England and his native Canada and it was his friend, and fellow polo playing Canadian, Fred Mannix who suggested that the “Mounties come to Guards”. The Club is grateful for both men’s support in helping to create this wonderful day.

In addition to the spectacle of the brilliant red jackets of the Mounties on the polo ground at Smith’s Lawn, the Club is also delighted to welcome the world renowned Canadian Tenors on this day too. This talented quartet will be performing during the afternoon – providing a rare opportunity for a British-based audience to hear these talented singers.

To allow a larger audience to be part of Guards Polo Club’s Mounties Day, the Club is opening its gates to everyone. Cars (and all their occupants) can watch the polo for just £20 per car. In addition, those who would like to make more of their visit can purchase day membership to Guards Polo Club for just £10 per person. Day membership is not usually available at this most famous of polo clubs and will provide an ideal grandstand seat for the polo and the Canadian Tenors’ performance. It also gives access to the Club’s elegant Clubhouse and Bar.

Even the Club’s hospitality team, led by TV chef Merrilees Parker, is cooking all things Canadian. Merrilees and her team at Pink Food have devised a Canadian themed BBQ for all members, although the only moose on the menu will be a chocolate one!
