New ponsor announced for British Ladies Polo at Cowdray Park

As interest in women’s polo continues to grow at a faster rate than the men’s game, and with club membership increasing worldwide, the polo and lifestyle brand Hurlingham Polo 1875 has recognised these exciting times and stepped in to sponsor the upcoming British Ladies Championships at Cowdray Park Polo Club.

Since the new ladies’ handicapping system was introduced into the UK in 2015, the number of ladies tournaments has increased exponentially.  In 2018, interest has grown even more and at Cowdray Park Polo Club, two tournaments will now run concurrently, The Hurlingham Polo 1875 British Ladies Handicap Tournament to be played at 6-12 goal level and The Hurlingham Polo 1875 British Ladies Championship at 12-18 goal handicap. With the Finals to be played at the Lawns grounds for the first time ever, the new title sponsor is allied with the increased visibility and stature of the event.

The tournaments open on 13th July and run through the final week of the King Power Gold Cup with the Final being played on Saturday 21st July – the day before the British Open Polo Championship Final.

Simon Hawkins, CEO of Hurlingham Polo 1875 says: “We are absolutely delighted to be part of the fantastic upsurge of interest in women’s polo.  This is a truly exciting time for us as a brand and also for ladies polo and we are fully committed in supporting the sport both on and off field’’

Polo Manager Chris Bethell adds: “Interest in the British Ladies Polo Championship has grown substantially, especially since women’s polo achieved its own handicap rating, and we have a record 10 teams in the 18 goal tournament and 4 in the 12 goal. We will see quality women’s polo being played here at Cowdray Park in 2018 and we are delighted to have Hurlingham Polo 1875 as a sponsor’’
