The NZ Polo Open is back in full stride for 2025, following its monumental return in 2024 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic and extreme weather challenges. This coming summer’s event, held at the iconic Auckland Polo Club in Clevedon on Sunday, 16th February 2025, promises even more excitement, elegance, and high-octane action, marking a new era for polo in New Zealand.
Celebrated as the ultimate blend of tradition and athleticism, the NZ Polo Open showcases the grace and power of polo, drawing enthusiasts and newcomers alike. “2025 will be our most exciting year yet,” says Lucy Ainsley, Executive Director of the NZ Polo Open. “After a record-breaking 2024 season and overcoming hurdles like Covid and Cyclones, last year was our comeback. But this year, we’re building on that success to deliver an unforgettable event with a lineup of matches and exciting events.”
Spectators can expect a fast-paced showcase of athleticism, as New Zealand’s top players go head-to-head with international talent on the largest polo field in the Southern Hemisphere. Polo’s dynamic nature, blending speed, precision, and teamwork, will keep the crowd on edge, with its trademark mix of horsemanship and split-second strategy. Collaboration between players and their ponies is crucial, and spectators will witness this remarkable partnership as teams navigate the 300-yard field in pursuit of victory.
In 2025, Horse vs Horsepower, proudly presented by Archibald & Shorter Auckland, will be back, pitting thoroughbred polo ponies against luxury SUVs in a thrilling race that highlights both agility and power. After the excitement on the field, indulge in post-match celebrations amidst the ambiance of the beautiful Estrella Lawn, where The Edge radio station will host the legendary afterparty, ensuring the celebration extends well into the night.
Stomping the Divots, a beloved polo tradition, will once again invite guests to take part in this time-honoured ritual with a charitable twist – a gold coin donation supporting a yet-to-be-announced local cause.
