Family Affair Easter Saturday for Outback at Hobe Sound Polo Club Finals

Obregon family look to maintain unbeaten run at 3pm for 12-goal honors

Easter Saturday promises to be a family affair at the Hobe Sound Polo Club. Aliano Realty lining up Nick Aliano, brothers Juan Martin Obregon and Tomas Obregon, and their cousin Matias Obregon are seeking a second victory over Cinque Terre/Peapacton to win the finals of the Outback at Hobe Sound Polo Club 12-goal League.

The teams met earlier in the tournament with CinqueTerre/Peapacton losing in overtime. It was a tough game for Cinque Terre/Peapacton’s Julian Aguilar who was coming back to the sport after undergoing heart surgery. “I had been out of polo and was not in shape,” he said. “Now I’m ready to go again.” Aguilar who suffered some paralysis on one side of his body and had to undergo a heart operation last year is now fully recovered. He plays alongside Gene Goldstein, fellow Argentine Michel Dorignac and Matias Sosa.

The ’Obregon’ family opposition is strong and Aliano Realty arrive unbeaten at the finals despite some team changes along the way. Original team member and a brother-in-law of the Obregon brothers Juan Martin and Tomas, Carlucho Arellano was sidelined after their opening game through injury. His hopes of returning to play in Saturday’s finals were dashed when medical examinations earlier this week showed a hairline fracture in his hand.

Arellano, who is married to Agustina [Obregon] lent his horses to his brother-in-law Facundo Obregon to play out the final league games, both of which Aliano Realty won. “Normally I’d say I wouldn’t like to watch someone else play my horses,” said Arellano. “But they [the Obregons] are all such great horsemen I enjoy watching.” Tomorrow, Arellano’s place will be taken by cousin-in-law Matias Obregon. “I’ll be there supporting at the field,” said Arellano, “and lending horses.”

All spectators and tailgaters are welcome and entry to the field is free. Hobe Sound Polo Club is located 1 mile east of I95 on Bridge Road.
