Pilarà-Piaget launches its new team at Palm Beach

During a pleasant dinner at the International Polo Club Palm Beach, Marcos Heguy, international brand ambassador, presented the new Pilarà-Piaget team that he captains. The event was attended by Philippe Léopold-Metzger, CEO of Piaget.

The next Triple Crown, which will take place in Buenos Aires in the fall of 2011, is already showing signs of being highly competitive. Pilarà-Piaget will certainly be able to count on their new team to take on the new polo season. Led by their iconic managing director, Marcos Heguy, with his 10 handicap, the team will draw as much on their experience, embodied by Bautista Heguy, as on the determination of the 2010 discoveries in the form of Hilario Ulloa, Cristain Laprida and Tomas Garcia del Rio.

Great things are expected of the Pilarà-Piaget team, combining the vision of one of the key players in the world of polo, Marcos Heguy, in his new role as managing director, with the highly complementary qualities of the four members of the team, who collectively make up a handicap of 33. Philippe Léopold-Metzger, CEO of Piaget, comments on the new Pilarà-Piaget team: “For a brand as committed to the transfer of knowledge and competencies as Piaget, the new Pilarà-Piaget team has a particular meaning. On the one hand, there’s the experience of Marcos Heguy, our brand ambassador and managing director of the team, and the family tradition represented by Bautista Heguy on the same team; and on the other, the audacity and ambition of new talent in Argentinian polo. Piaget is proud not only to have been associated with promoting this most noble of sports since the 1980s, but equally to support a team that is perfectly in harmony with the values that are so dear to us.”

For the fourth consecutive year, Piaget and Pilarà are involved with supporting the team that bears their names and in the promotion of the fundamental principles of top-level competitive sport: excellence, precision and respect.

And as far as the connection between the Pilarà project and its relationship to top competitive sport is concerned, José Aberg Cobo, the company’s sales director, says, “Pilarà is the ideal spot for families seeking a healthy lifestyle and outdoor sport. Since its inception, we have targeted both those who appreciate amateur sport as well as sports professionals who excel at the highest competitive level. It is a great honour for us to share with Piaget our support for this new team – a team that combines the long experience in polo of the Heguy family and the enthusiasm of the sport’s latest talent.

Argentina has long been considered the “Mecca” of international polo – an elite sport with which Piaget has been involved for more than 30 years. This historical relationship was born towards the end of the 70s, when the Swiss brand developed its Piaget Polo collection, inspired by the demanding, chic environment of the sport of kings. Piaget’s presence in polo has been strengthened in the past few years both thanks to the bond that the company has developed with “magician” Marcos Heguy, brand ambassador since 2007 and to its support for the Pilarà-Piaget team.

About Piaget

Since it was founded in 1874, Piaget has embodied unique know-how with its abundant creativity. From the famous ultra-thin Calibre 9P created in the 50s, to the tourbillon 600P movement – the thinnest in the world – the exceptional talent of Piaget’s craftsmen lies in their ability to reinvent ancient watchmaking techniques. Having manufactured movements since its beginnings, the company has not merely sought to apply its rigorous quality norms and highly developed sense of innovation to the hidden part of timepieces. Completely breaking away from the codes of its profession, it has introduced a completely new way of wearing time to watchmaking, treating watches to cases, bracelets and dials that are as valuable as they are original. This expertise in jewellery-making has been developed by Piaget for decades in the company’s own workshops, transforming the wildest imaginable projects into realities. All of which brings great delight to the brand’s designers who demonstrate boundless creativity through both watches and jewellery.
