Pink Polo returns to Ghantoot on 29th October 2011

Pink Polo – A Pioneering Sport Initiative to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

The Popular Family Day Out Is Back at Ghantoot

Pink Polo, the UAE’s ground-breaking Breast cancer awareness initiative, will return for it’s second renewal on Saturday 29th October at the UAE’s Royal Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UAE and is the second-biggest killer of women in the country. If the disease is discovered and treated at an early stage, 98 per cent of sufferers will survive, yet only 30 per cent of breast cancer cases in the Emirates are diagnosed early.

Launched in 2010, Pink Polo was founded by Carrie McNeill as a new way of increasing breast cancer awareness in the UAE and providing an opportunity to allow the community to be educated and overcome taboos associated with the disease.

Designed as a fun family day out, Pink Polo invites the UAE community to enjoy a world-class polo exhibition game between ADCB polo team and Estée Lauder Companies Polo team.  High goal Argentinean players will join Emirati polo professionals in a high-octane, action-packed game.

The Pink Polo event caters for both children and adults and offers an afternoon full of free activities leading up to the big match. These include pony and camel rides, falcon and horse shows, Pink nail polish changes and Pink Ribbon body art. There will also be photo sessions with polo players, reserved picnic areas and a best – ‘pink’ – dressed award, where the guest wearing the most striking pink outfit of the day wins a pair of Etihad Airways tickets to any destination.

The event also features “The Pink Majilis”, a centerpoint where guests have the opportunity to talk to medical experts, meet breast cancer survivors, learn self-examination techniques and undergo free screenings at the Lifeline mobile mammography unit.

Carrie McNeill, founder of Pink Polo said: “Pink Polo started as a very small idea but has exploded to become one of the country’ main breast cancer awareness eventsLive. We have had great support from both our patron HH Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, government bodies such as Health Authority Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Sports Council and from our much valued sponsors such as our presenting sponsor, ADCB. This year I’m also delighted to announce the “Pink Terrace”, a ladies Only VIP pavilion, created by Harlequin Marquees and catered by French gourmet brand, Fauchon. So the 200 lucky ladies who will receive invites will have a great experience while watching the polo and learning more about Breast Cancer. Pink Polo has also launched a number of promotional activities this year to further engage the local community and grow awareness. The Pink Polo Campus Tour, in collaboration with Higher Colleges of Technology and Zayed University where we visit female campuses all over the UAE. We have also continued our success with the limited-edition Pink Polo abaya collection, this year created by Abu Dhabi’s latest up-and-coming fashion label, Trio Couture.”

Pink Polo is organised by Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club in association with Health Authority Abu Dhabi. Several prominent local and international companies have pledged support to Pink Polo including presenting partner, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), team sponsor, Estée Lauder Companies and official partners, Abu Dhabi Airport Company, Etihad Airways, Nexus, Omnia and St Regis Hotel as well as media partners, Abu Dhabi Week, Anazahra.com, Emirates Woman and Sport 360.

Pink Polo will take place on October 29th, admission is free and gates open at 2pm.
